About Mort Zakarin (1925-2014)
Drafted into the U.S. Army at the age of 18, Mort was auditioned by Captain Glenn Miller and spent the war years from 1943 to 1946 playing clarinet, saxophone, and flute in the Army Air Corps Band.
Following World War II, he performed with many of the big bands that traveled around the country. When the big band era ended, he headed a sales agency.
Retiring at the age of sixty, Mort returned to his first loves - sports, music, and writing - completing over 20 novels and memoirs.
Sadly, Mort passed away in 2014 at the age of 89. He is buried at the South Florida National Cemetery.
