Swinging Through the South
Mort Zakarin left us in 2014 at the age of 89. Mort spent much of his 30-year retirement writing stories and memoirs. One of his books stands out from the rest: Swinging Through the South - Just Color it Black and White is a quasi-autobiographical story of Mort's experience as a white jazz musician - touring the segregated American south together with an African-American big-band in 1949.
Read about the adventures of a mixed-race jazz band as they maneuver through segregated hotels and clubs, survive run-ins with hostile law enforcement officials, and run a KKK gauntlet.
Swinging Through the South - Just Color it Black and White is a living testament to the power of friendship and great music.
